There are a lot of equation derivations and practice problems. Any engineering student knows how that goes. What I like particularly about this book is that at the end of each section is two or three practice problems worked out with full detail and explanation, to give the reader a typical example.

About the Author
Robert Yeats is a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and the Geological Society of America. He is senior consultant and partner in Earth Consultants International, an international firm focusing on earthquake hazards, and also an Emeritus Professor at Oregon State University. He has decades of experience in earthquake geology worldwide, including acting as chair of the International Lithosphere Project on active faults for several years and authoring three previous books: Geology of Earthquakes (with Kerry Sieh and Clarence R. Allen), Living with Earthquakes in California and Living with Earthquakes in the Pacific Northwest. An endowed professorship at Oregon State University has been named in his honour and the AAPG have recognised his work by awarding him the Michel T. Halbouty Human Needs Award.

Essential reference for geohazards

Yeats' book will be an essential go-to reference for anyone working in seismic hazards, for at least the next decade. Yeats is uniquely qualified to pull together this massive compilation based on his decades-long experience on active fault databases and international working groups. He gives the active faults described a solid context of structural geology (his academic background) and seismotectonics, but also weaves in the seismic hazard implications (from his consulting experience). He also points out what we don't know. The only drawback to this book is that it will need revision in another decade, to include the next generation of copious neotectonic publications. But even then, the solid structural geology foundation of this book will remain relevant.

Great book.

This is the newest book by Robert Yeats. I have the two about earthquakes in the Pacific northwest and California and those two provide a great amount of info. This one examines world faults in good detail. I just wish the book was larger and had color maps. The major fault zones are described well with the latest paleoseismic studies. Anyone with an interest in earthquakes should get this book.

I absolutely loved it. Now

These was my first Shelly Laurenston book. I absolutely loved it. Now, I'm doing a review now because I never one at the time...years ago. I re-read it today and decided to go ahead and review it as well.

Sara, Sara, Sara...she is scary and a total bad *** b*tch. Thats how you describe her...seriously. Zack, Zack, Zack...can be scary...total a-hole, albeit a hot one and in protection mode for Sara. He can't stay away. He's an Alpha male and will be taking over the Magnus Pack soonish. After a little fun times at a party involving Zack and Sara...things change for her. Like she turns into a wolf kind of change. She is beyond pissed and scared. She is a bit mentally imbalanced but it totally works in her favor. Her friends Miki and Angelina are equally bitchy but for different reasons. They are sooo fun to read. When Zack and Sara first do the deed as in *ex it is VIOLENT! Whew...man that is hot! Ha. She has to fight for her life cause those damn cats wont leave her be. Is she strong enough to be Alpha Female along with Zack? Will she survive it all and secure her place? This series is sorta intertwined with her Pride series. We get little cameos here and there. Love this book and series. I love Shelly Laurenston aka G A Aiken. She does awesome work and you will laugh your butt off. Check her out!

This book is the first in the Magnus Pack series and it tells of Zach and Sara's story. Sara has been working in a motorcyle shop all her life after her mean grandmother dies. Unbeknownist to her she is a shifter living in a shifter community except for her two best friends Miki and Angelina who are also clueless about their town. Sara was in an accident when she was little and walks with a limp; all of this happens before she reaches the age to shift and therefore it keeps her from being able to shift or heal her wounds. This accident also kills her parents and she goes to stay with her grandmother who resented the Magnus Pack for taking her daughter away and letting her get killed. So she keeps Sara away from them and threatens to kill any who come after Sara thus keeping her in the dark about her shifter status and community. When Zach rolls into town with his alpha all heck breaks lose and the next thing you know Sara is walking around without a limp(with some help from Zach), finds her mate, and fends off a pride of lions who are out to kill her. Shelly Laurenston has never disappointed me with her storyline, humor, or the suspense you can find in her shifter series and I can't wait till she writes more. Well done Shelly Laurenston please write more I am still waiting on Nikolai's brother story- you know the one that likes Zach's sister.

I loved the character interactions,. It was also a good story. Couldn't put it down. -I can't wait to read the next book!
